Measures Haemoglobin Concentration. Coral Clinical Systems has answered these concerns of the busy laboratory professional by engineering the “Flexipour”reagent system which comprises of individual liquid stable components, which when mixed together in recommended ratios generate a dependable liquid stable working reagent. Depending on the usage, individual reagents may be poured at one go or flexibly in smaller volumes. Haemoglobin is the major source of oxygen for various tissue cells and its deficiency leads to the destruction of the tissue cells. Increased levels are found in polycythaemia, congenital cyanotic heart disease, heat stroke and dehydration. Decreased levels are found in all varieties of anemias, resulting from deficiency of iron or folic acid, red blood hemolysis, defective globin synthesis and structural abnormalities Though the cyanmethemoglobin method is recommended as a international reference method, presence of potassium cyanide (KCN) in the formulation constitutes a potential toxic hazard to the users and from the point of view of its safe disposal. Hemosafe-SLS is a safe, ready to use, potassium cyanide free, non-hazardous reagent that combines the stability, reliability and reproducibility of the cyanmethemoglobin method yet overcomes the toxic hazards posed by the potassium cyanide in it.SLS disrupts the erythrocyte membrane and brings about the change of Haemoglobin by SLS through an oxidation reaction resulting in a stable SLS-Haemoglobin complex. This complex is measured photometrically at 540 nm. Total conversion to the SLS-Haemoglobin complex is extremely rapid and SLS converts methaemoglobin fully and yields Haemoglobin concentration results that are comparable to the cyanmethemoglobin method
